A Parent’s Guide to Supporting Online Learning
This website is a resource for parents or caregivers who are supporting students with online learning. When students learn online, they often need support from an adult.
Researchers developed a free survey to help you assess these three areas. Click the link below to take the survey.
How will I support my online student?
Sometimes parents get overwhelmed because they feel like they have to do everything to help their student succeed in online school. Knowing the answers to these three questions can help parents decide how they will help and how they will need others to help.
- How much can my student do independently?
- How much support will I get from the online school?
- What kinds of support can I give?
The HOPE survey can help you assess these three areas.

What parents are saying...
"I noticed my younger one in particular, really doing well, like being able to finish his work, and then like, read a book, or finish his work and stretch out on the floor, or move to the couch like he just. He really was calmer about school."
— Parent of Online Learner"I'll peek over and be like, are you getting this? Are you paying attention? I can see he was way off, so I pull up a chair right next to him and say, "Okay, let's listen to her together."
— Parent of Online Learner"They were learning those skills that serve them through life, and then facilitate learning all through college, and even ongoing education through their careers."
